Unlock Your Potential: An Interview with a Purpose-driven Entrepreneur - Jag Chima

Every individual carries a universe of potential, waiting to be explored. To bring out the best in you, we are starting a series, "Unlock Your Potential." Through this, we will delve into a series of interviews with extraordinary people who have dared to dream, believed in themselves, and unlocked their best selves.

Today, we are featuring Jag Chima, an entrepreneur with purpose-driven businesses. Jag's journey spans multiple ventures, including a gym chain, an influencer marketing company, and health optimisation centres in London - Be Superhuman. His approach to fitness, business, and life offers valuable lessons on unlocking one's true potential.

Are you ready to unlock your inner superhuman? Let's begin.

1. Tell us who is Jag Chima.

I would say, I’m someone who has a positive outlook towards life and always leaves people with positive energy.

2. Would you like to shed some light on your professional life?

Sure. I have always been an entrepreneur involved in purpose-driven businesses. I take risks. I like to pave the way where nobody else has gone before.

Sure, I take a professional approach, but I also try to make as much difference as possible in the lives of people. An example would be our gym chain in India. The purpose behind the gym chain was originally to find a good environment for fitness professionals to work in. That was my objective and the byproduct was fitter and happier members.

3. Jag, in one of your reels, you mentioned that fitness transformed your life. Can you take us through that transformative journey?

Absolutely. My journey with fitness took a significant turn after a motorbike crash in 2008. Back then, I wasn’t able to do some of the basic exercises and I found unorthodox ways of doing them. It was almost like a baby trying to crawl, and when they tried to walk, they fell. That's exactly how I started my fitness journey again in 2008.

This experience taught me that business, like fitness, requires unconventional ways of overcoming challenges. Fitness taught me discipline, to never give up and to be patient to see the results. If you continue to do that, you will eventually start seeing the results.

"Fitness is not just what you see on the outside, it starts on the inside. When someone starts their fitness journey, they don't see what's happening on the inside at first, but they measure results based on what they see on the outside.”

4. You don multiple hats. Can you tell us about your venture, Be Superhuman?

Be Superhuman is a health optimisation centre that we've established in London. We currently have two branches. The concept behind Be Superhuman is to provide a space where people can become the best versions of themselves.

We offer a range of therapies and treatments aimed at optimising health and preventing illness. These include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, red light therapy, cryotherapy, leg compression, IV drips, and EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) training. At Be Superhuman, we also service people with critical illnesses like cancer and dementia.

5. Red light therapy is very trendy these days. Can you tell us the science behind it and how it impacts the human body and the target user?

In scientific literature, red light therapy is called photobiomodulation. It is a treatment that optimises health at a cellular level. As we age, some of our cell functions become less efficient, which speeds up the ageing process and slows down our recovery.

Red light therapy powers up our cells, helps detoxify, speeds up recovery, and helps our body function as it should. The benefits are numerous - from better-looking skin and improved mental health to faster recovery from pain and joint issues. It can even help people who've had surgery and want to get rid of marks. It's one of my all-time favourites because it's the most used therapy at Be Superhuman.

Broadly, our user base is bifurcated into two types based on their motivations. The first one is problem-solving where about 60% of our users lie. These are people who are seeking solutions for skin conditions like eczema or other aesthetic concerns. The second is preventive care and wellness where 20% of our users utilise this therapy as a proactive measure for skin health and general wellness as it makes them feel good.

6. Cryotherapy is gaining popularity. Can you tell us more about its benefits and who uses them?

Cryotherapy is indeed very trendy, and for good reason. It's a therapy where you're exposed to extremely cold temperatures for a short period.

The benefits are immediate and significant. When you come out of a cryotherapy session, you feel instantly energised and alive. It's great for people with chronic fatigue, digestion issues, skin conditions, and joint pain.

Professional athletes - footballers, marathon runners, boxers, and UFC fighters use it for recovery and performance enhancement. About 45% of our users are regular people who come for the energy boost and overall well-being. Another significant portion uses it for specific health issues or recovery. We even have an 80-year-old woman who, after three sessions, went from using two walking sticks to walking on her own.

7. Let's shift gears a bit. How do you define "unlocking your potential"? Has Luna Ring in any way helped you in unlocking your potential?

It's a daily practice of comparing yourself with how you were yesterday. I journal every single day and I think it’s only through accountability that you understand what your true potential is and how you can unlock it.

I used to underestimate the power of recovery through sleep. With Luna Ring by my side, I have realised the importance of good sleep. So, I believe when you're able to track your performance through mechanisms like this, you unlock the next level of your potential.

8. Speaking of tracking, how do you set and monitor your fitness goals, especially given your busy schedule?

Investing in myself is my priority, everything else is secondary. I used to think it was selfish to put myself first, but then I realised that you can't pour from an empty cup.

I believe in setting both long-term aspirational goals and daily habits that support them. Longevity is a key goal for me - I want to be able to do what I do today for as long as possible.

For instance, I'm training for two back-to-back marathons in April. This long-term goal is broken down into daily training routines, recovery practices, and lifestyle choices. I use the Luna Ring to track my progress and ensure I'm recovering adequately. It's good to see where I am going with my HRV.

Luna Ring is not an option for me, it’s non-negotiable. It’s the best investment I have made.

I also use the Luna Ring to make real-life decisions. For example, if I have to go to a party and have a drink or two, I can see its impact on my sleep quality the next day. This data helps me make informed choices about my lifestyle, always with an eye on my long-term goals.

9. Looking ahead, what impact or legacy do you hope to leave as both a human being and a businessman?

My overarching goal is to help people live longer, more functional lives with purpose.

With our gym chain in India, we've educated over six and a half thousand trainers since 2011. We've created multiple levels of jobs, from international people working in India to local people who never thought they could get those salaries. It's incredibly fulfilling to see people who once couldn't afford a motorbike now driving cars.

"We want more people to be able to dream bigger."

So, the legacy would be to help people live a longer and more functional life with purpose.

10. One last question. What is your advice for people looking to become the best self, and unlock their potential?

Start with the basics – the low-hanging fruits.

Do not underestimate the power of sleep, hydrating yourself and smiling more often.

Once you've mastered these basics, start tracking your progress. Set small, achievable goals and gradually build up to bigger challenges. Unlocking your potential is all about becoming a better version of yourself every day. Be patient with yourself, stay consistent, and don't be afraid to try unconventional methods.

Your potential is limitless – it's up to you to unlock it.

As we wrap up this inspiring conversation with Jag Chima, one thing becomes clear: the path to unlocking your potential is not about drastic changes or superhuman powers. It's about consistent, purposeful actions, using the right smart wearables, and staying true to your long-term goals by being consistent daily.
